Simon the sanding block is obviously a bonded type of cork material, it is too consistant to be a natural product but I have had a piece of it sitting in oil for a couple of months now and there is no sign of it breaking down. I guess time will tell. I just cut the cork block with a sharp blade with no problems at all, parted them off at 7mm and then cut them to fit the plate, whole job probably took half an hour in front of the telly, dead simple

I will try the cork plates at a later date thanks for the recommendation, think i'll stick the old springs back in and see if i have a problem then. If that's the case then time for a rethink....
Ps i still have all my hair a despite owning an enfield !
Thanks to all again will keep you posted

Of course, when I think about it the H89k plates are bonded onto a solid plate and they work fine. I think if the cork was likely to fail it would do so very fast. My method idols have the added advantage of requiring the emptying of a large number of wine bottles. :)

Stuck old springs back in with new plates and works a treat (untill the carb blocked mid journey). Safely baffled

Simon thanks for the part no, re cork plates.. Think i will give that a try in the spring..

I also found the uprated springs a little to strong and had better results from 6 standard ones..

After about an hours riding though i find its getting difficult to engage neutral from first gear at a standstill and its this messing about at traffic lights with the clutch getting hotter that keeps me out of the city at all costs, preferring the country roads.. Shouldn't be this way though so i hope that cork might finally make the difference..

Yes I'm afraid the vino here is all screw caps these days. Very convenient but not so good for motorcycle clutches.

Ask your local bartender or restaurant drinks waiter if you can look in the rubbish bin for a few corks.

I have a little trick that will give you more pull on the cable. Modify the leaver by filing it where it rests against the handlebar bracket in a way that will allow it to sit further into the bracket. Then adjust the cable slack accordingly. Should give you an extra bit of movement in the cable.

Other option- throw away parts that are Enfield, and fit a Newbi. Do not get me going on Enfield clutches. IMHO load of rubbish.
