Returning to motorcycling at the age of 71 after a 36 year absence, and having purchased a Bullet EFi Classic, I am struggling to catch up with product changes/developments and would appreciate guidance. Simple things like what is now recommended as a replacement for Solvol Autosol, Turtlewax, chain lubrication oil and other maintenance/cleaning products ? Is 18/50 engine oil as recommended in the bike´s manual really necessary (I used to use Duckhams 20/50) because I can´t find anyone who stocks it (I live in Spain). Are non-oil based lubricants any good for chains and cables ? All these complications, and on top of modern features such as electric start, disc brakes, 5 gears on the wrong side, it´s enough to make a chap retire again ! !

I suspect as with many other things in Enfield manuals the 18-50 is a misprint for 20-50.

Welcome, Tim. Most of the products you were familiar with are still around and of course there are new ones too but not necessarily better! Try Googling a few old names, you'll soon catch up. Alternatively have a look in the Accessory Shop on this site, there is a good range of products listed most of which you will easily get in Spain. If stuck, just ask here!

Beware the new hermetite though, it is total carp and little more than overpriced red coloured silicone sealer. The original real stuff is readily available on fleabay.

Thanks all, good to know that there is help out there, very reassuring. Will check with dealer re oil grade and take care with hermetite. I live at Castril in north Granada Province, Nettshubby, probably a 2 hour drive to Mazarron but I do travel down that way from time to time

Hi matey and welcome back to the fold-----------BEWARE !!---- things on the road have changed quite a bit over the years, though you might be OK in rural Spain (lucky swine !!--LoL ! )----Traffic in the City and large towns tend to be less tolerant of 2-wheelers than you might remember it to be ( Your average family saloon car can now keep up and/or overtake you nowadays)--------BUT, there are a lot more lads out there, just like you and me, actively riding on 2-wheels on a regular basis so you're not alone !!............Join a local Brit-Bike club and go on their ride-outs....Be prepared for the "I used to have one of those" chaps to stop you for a lengthy chinwag...Have FUN-----------RIDE SAFE.

Hi all I'm new here just bought a chrome classic Efi (3weeks old)and love it,with reference to the oïl question the correct grade is 15/50 I had difficulty trying to find it (not stocked in supermarkets) but my local bike acessory shop have Ipone 15/50semi synthetic which is spot-on for the Enfield.Hope this is of some help.

A word of warning - Don't just buy any old oil of the right grade (15W-50 for an EFI engine in the UK). It has to be motorcycle specific. There is another code 'JASO - MA' which you need to look for. This is not just a marketing rip off to get you to pay more. Because motorcycle clutches run in oil they need a sticky type of oil. Car oils, which is what you will get in petrol stations, supermarkets and accessory shops, have extra slipperiness additives which are not good for motorcycle clutches!
