Thanks Adrian, But the bug has bitten, hopefully I can get a British pre focus 35w/35w until a suitable LED unit comes along.

I don't use the bike after dark very often, but do need light for those odd occasions.

Our hosts pre focus is made by Lucas TSV which is an Indian company that has the rights to manufacture Lucas parts, but... The lens is different and the MADE IN ENGLAND has turned into FOREIGN GLASS, and the lens pattern is slightly different.

Any body got an original pre focus? these have MADE IN ENGLAND curved at the bottom of the lens with 700 HEADLAMP immediatly above (not near the centre logo as in the Indian ones)? swap it for a neolite AND motovision bulb! The pics below shows the English one I am after.

I may still have an old one somewhere, though the relector will probably need re-finishing as it looked a bit tarnished. Will have a rummage later and see if it's still there. A.

Scalyback - I can't imagine why anyone would want to fit a BPF unit of any type, simply because of the lettering on the glass.........but each to his own, of course.
The parts mentioned by Yorkie are what our hosts list for my 1960 Bullet, but be aware that both are pattern parts rather than Lucas originals - you may need to ask Mr. H to confirm the lens pattern and lettering if this an issue. (My own bike came to me with a 7" BPF light unit which at first glance I thought was Lucas, but is actually a Wipac pattern unit.)

John L,

It wasn't just the lettering on the glass, I just like the Lucas unit, But somehow, there is a 'look' to the originals, which the Lucas TVS (India) just missed out on, maybe the definition or the type of glass?

I don't know, but having seen both, I much prefer the original, which leads to it's own problem of supply, but I have my fingers crossed on one possibility.

If that fails,I will consider the Indian version instead.

Scaly - my own experience leads me to support Adrian's suggestions re keeping the Neolite unit, but if the reflector is tarnished significanly on a Lucas BPF unit - it's SCRAP !
I sat here (for ages) typing a much more detailed reply, but this simply disappeared when I submitted it, also logging me out........ GRRRRRRRRR !!!

always copy the whole text before pressing 'post reply'.

Will have to wait a few days to see what the unit and reflector are like, fingers crossed.

OK, FOUND IT !!! 1 700 series genuine Lucas, glass identical to the one in your latest picture as far as I can tell, three rows of horizontal embossed lettering at the bottom as follows: 700 HEADLAMP MADE IN ENGLAND M3 No chunks missing out of the glass, just a few tiny black spots on the inside which you could happliy ignore or quite possibly remove with a meths-moistened cotton bud. The back of the reflector has some spidery rust, but the silvered side actually looks remarkably good, I'd be happy to use it. There is no pilot light hole, but then what are the RE casquette lights for, eh? It even has an original BPF bulb holder in reasonable nick, and a 6V bulb which has been doing a fine job of keeping muck and spiders out.

Is this what you want? Happy to swap or part-ex for that Neolite of yours if it is, or make me a (derisory) offer. Over to you. Regards, Adrian.
