I did forget to mention, neing a cheapskate I bought the one with the Indian manufactured seat cover. The rivets seem to be made of the same stuff as the Angel of the North, they instarust, so probably go for the British made cover.

Not for the first time have I seen threads about sprung saddles and each time I wondered the same thing - do the proponents of single sadd;es, with at times a pillion pad ever carry a pillion? If so what is the pillion passenger's opinion?

Before I fitted the single sprung saddle plus carrier with removable saddle, I had one of the "Machismo" seats plus pad, which was pretty comfy for the rider and my son said the pillion was OK, though it seemed hard to me. He hasn't tried the new pillion for any distance, though it looks OK.
I think the Machismo seat is discontinued, but two things about it; 1) though comfy, it wasn't well -made, and 2) it was frustrating because the pillion mounted on a base from which it was obviously designed to be QD- just held by a couple of large, knurled Allen bolts. It really looked as if there should have been an optional carrier to fit in its place, but I never found one, either from the UK or India!

I've got one on my 2006 350. I found it a bit uncomfortable after a while in the saddle, so I took the cover off, fitted some foam and put it back on. Not as comfortable as the king & queen seat, but it looks the part.

Come to think of it, I did the same as Jools. A bit of Karrimat if I recall.

Thank you for all your comments/advice - I will be getting one (British made cover) as soon as I can. PeteF - is that the big carrier modified? I've been thinking about that for some time, but held the hacksaw back until I see how the single seat fits.

Hi Exile ... never knew there were gatherings of vintage bikes and cars at Amager Strandpark. Is this something new or a long lasting event taking place every wednesday during summer? I'm still doing small trips around when wheather permits, but I guess the vintage gatherings are over by now. And, Scaly, are you a former Copenhagen recident, since you know that particular place in Exiles picture? Some 20+ years ago I lived only a couple of miles away from that very same Helgoland. Used to go there for small walks... regards Jacob

Yes, just the standard rack modified. It gives a lot more capacity than the little mudguard type. Article about my conversion here.

Thanks Pete - I've finally bought the English cover single seat and modified the carrier. As I'm fortunate enough to have an electric welder I cut the brackets off and welded them back on a bit further back. Thank you for the idea/inspiration.

I think the degree of bounce that you will experience could be proportional to your weight. Heavier riders may having a damping effect on the springing. I am 10 stone and find there is a bit of extra bounce over big bumps. I have increased the comfort of the saddle but sitting on a sheepskin. The Indian made cover will dis-integrate before your eyes, I'm afraid.I've painted the rivets and clips with hammerite.
