Hi all,
Should the throttle stop screw be an interference fit?Mine keeps dropping out of the round housing underneath the switchgear thought about a smear of locktight then pushing it in,has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it?When i bought the bike it didnt have one fitted and the end of the throttle cable kept getting stuck.Bought one from our hosts and it is to slack for the housing.

If it's the screw I think it is, it should be overlength. IE a bit of spare thread so the head doesnt ground. There should be a locknut on it so you can set the screw and lock it off with the nut against the housing.

Presuming this is a Mikcarb, shouldn't the spring hold it in place? Mine does quite well.

Spence i think you mean the throttle cable stop, a kind of slotted brass ferrule under the throttle rotor..

If you loctite this in then you won't be able to remove the cable from the rotor when the time comes for replacement.

Hense the slot.. It is held in place by carefully adjusting the slack in the outer cable using the lock nut and adjuster on top of the carb body..

Take up the slack only and no more, else you will start to lift the carb slide causing the engine to rev out of control on starting..

For your info the throttle stop SCREW is located on the side of the carb and adjusts the slide rest height for tickover..

I'm not sure what he is refering to but on some twistgrips there is a throttle stop screw under the twistgrip to prevent the drum rotating backwards too far and allowing the ferrule that Gwilly is talking about from dropping out. If this is the case refer to Zippys advice

If thre's enough room, you could fit a small spring to tension it. On some bikes it's used to bear on a flat peice of spring steel against the throttle drum to provide friction so the throttle doesn't smap shut when you let go, to signal or close the choke or something.

It is an MOT fail, if the throttle does not close when you let go of it.

Netts, Know what you mean, like the old doherty or amal type.. Darned handy when you need to rest your arm for a second..

Don't think it can be easily done on the ES Enfields as all the starter switchgear would have to be revamped..

Papa the screw can be backed off for normal usage and MOT Testing..

thanks gwilly and others who replied,
I do mean the brass ferrule under the throttle housing this is confusingly listed by our hosts as a throttle stop screw.I have adjusted the throttle cable accordingly which is a new one and there seems to be to much slack in it just not enough to hold the stop in place,standard bars fitted so i think i will have to have a little fiddle about with bits and pieces to get it adjusted correctly as has been suggested maybe a small additional spring to retain it.
