2008 4 speed 500cc classic - jumps out of second gear too frequently at slow speeds so just want to check I am missing anything. It has a new cable properly adjusted to allow a touch of slack at handlebar and the pushrod adjuster screwed until resistance is felt then eased out a touch as per instructions. No mods to clutch or gearbox. Assured, and slow gear changes helps ie clutch in, firmly press down on shifter, clutch out, accelerate - however just wondering if a dog could be worn with these symptoms. Only has 4000 miles on the clock. People say 'they are what they are' but correctly adjusted and no underlying issues they should be fine!

I would guess, not worn dogs at only four thousand miles but hey, Indian steel is variable to say the least.. I gave up trying to keep an edge on a plane blade and went back to the old original sheffield steel, too short but still works.. (hmm, where did i hear that recently?..) I digress..

I think your first action would be to try adjusting the "gosa" what we call the detent plunger..

Importanto.. Place the box in the false neutral between 3rd and 4th. Else you will chew the chiseled end of the plunger as you turn it with the screwdriver..

Slacken the locknut and screw in the plunger exactly one or even two full turns.. Too tight and it becomes difficult to move the gear pedal..

Have to play it by ear a bit really.. This assumes the clutch is as best as it can be.. Give it a try..

If tht fails - next on the list is the selector assy under the outer cover, maybe that needs a careful setup

If the clutch isn't clearing nicely it will pretend to be in second and then decide neutral is better.
