Hi all. As some of you may be aware I had a problem with the charging circiut on my electra X. Well today I have repaired a small amount of wiring and change the fuse holders to blade type. So I plucked up the courage to start it up. After 2 weeks standing it fired up first time and with everything switched on its giving a steady 14.7v . One marked improvement is it now starts off the button with the lights switched on. So only a voltmeter to wire in to keep a check on it

One thing I have noticed is how thin and lightweight some of the wiring is. When I removed the second fuse the wires just came apart in my hand. Just glad I was only a mile from home when it broke down. A few days earlier I was 200 miles from home and I didn't have tools with me

Davie: 14.7V is a bit on the high side. I would keep an eye on it. I'd be looking for something closer to 14.4V as a maximum.

Without a calibrated voltmeter you can't really tell what you have. Cheap ones can easily be half a volt out.

When I checked it it had just started and was showing quite a high output on the ammeter but was starting to drop. I have a small voltmeter to wire in which show the same as my multimeter. It won't be going out inthe dark anytime soon so if it fails again at least it will be in daylight and I will carry stuff to get it going again. I will be keeping an eye on the battery electrolyte level just in case. If it dies again it will get a power box fitted

Davie good to know it is ok again. I only have personal information on one failure of an Electra stator failing, never heard of Electra rec/reg failing

Norm, you have now, intermittent 17v charge and occasional no charge at all. Replaced with a Boyer and been fine since.
