Can't see the video, Simon, it comes up as 'private' using your link. Another odd ball random noise can come from the oil pump spindle moving fore and aft a bit inside the timing cover, our 350 racer does this at low engine speeds especially when cold.

Yes spotted the private video issue but can't find a way to turn it off. The spindle noise sounds interesting I always assumed it came from the timing side but couldn't find a cause. Will investigate and report.

No that's a nice engine speed related clatter (possibly a bent pushrod or similar) mine is an altogether more mysterious noise. sorry there is no one upmanship intended here. I've sorted the vid (PC only control panel was the problem.

See what you think. I've realized that it is nothing to do with the gear box as it does it with the clutch in and in gear when the gearbox is stationary so oil pump spindle and alt rotor are my next targets.

Could it be the oil pump worm drive/spindle is worn and occasionally slips a tooth?. also check the rotation of the pumps themselves, but less likely.

Interesting. I have something similar on my 2010 EFI. Sometimes I think it's blowing somewhere and other times it sounds mechanical. My current thinking is, perhaps, the auto decompressor is stuck open, but there is no loss of power. It's going back to the doctor next week so we'll see what he has to say.

Wow That's really nice of you Norm and Chris.... thanks very much for the warm welcome. It's a reminder of how this forum is so friendly and was always a pleasure to be part of it. I still remember all the regulars here...hard to believe that 2 years or more have passed. I was just doing a bit of shopping here and popped in...not sure of my suggestion was any help though, I'm not convinced it is the spindle so will continue to listen to the film clip....Noises....always a tricky one...specially ones that stop and start, and always a worry too. Alas, I can't promise to join in the fun very often but will be looking at Simon's problem to see what eventually it proves to be...Wishing you all the very best, hope to speak again...Take care chaps.

It is a nice polite and generally well informed forum. Glad I've got all of you on the job I must say. It is entirely infuriating because in every other way I have the most delightful motorcycle. It has bundles of pep around town and is perfectly pleasant over long distance as long as you are prepared to at 60 to 65 mph. It starts first kick and now has a very nice gearbox and clutch. I'm still preaching from the gospel of cork. The rattle though is not right and must be sorted as it is a mechanical thing and therefore incapable of malice. I will get to the bottom of it!
