John,
the Indian engine plates, alloy spacer and centre stand all bolt straight into the '56 and later frames, too, I have this for my '60 framed project and it's a lot less effort than the alloy original that my '58 Bullet had.
there's only 1" difference in the radius between the 19" and 17" wheels, assuming the tyre is of a similar section. Any extra clearance for getting the wheels in and out must be a bonus. You may have to grind away part of the feet on both sides of the stand if cornering clearance is a problem. The bike may eventually do this for you provided the stand doesn't dig in and spit you off first! My bike has an 18" back and 21" front wheel, and I'll be keeping a careful eye on this when it finally takes to the road.
You can also fit a Samrat side stand, though you will need a longer through stud than the original if your doing this. Google Motalia for a supplier of odd length 3/8" Stainless cycle thread studs (now you wouldn't expect a Laverda specialist to sell these, would you?) if our hosts haven't got one the right length.
Regards,
A.
