Hi everyone,
Well I've been reading the posts on the forums for well over a year now and until recently have not posted anything, mainly because I didn't have anything useful to say. But I want to introduce my project which has slowly been burning a hole in my wallet since September last year. That's when I got the Enfield bug and after selling my Honda VTR I purchased a nice 2003 plate Bullet 65. As it was late Sept and the weather was already turning bad I decided to start my rebuild of the Enfield, now I have been inspired by a lot of custom builds out there on the interweb but the guys at Old Empire Motorcycles were what made me go for this build. Also I gotta say Hitchcocks are very helpful and I could quite easily spend another fortune on the various goodies that they have on this site (maybe another Enfield project). Anyway I had a rough idea what I wanted the design to look like and jumped head first into stripping down the Bullet 65. I think the first thing that impressed me was the ease at which it came apart, proper old school design, the second thing that impressed me was the weight I saved/ shaved off the bike in one night. Totalled 18Kgs that I didn't need or want on the Enfield.
Anyway to cut a long story short I was finally able to fire up the old girl this morning after finally finishing the wiring loom (nightmare 3 weeks getting it right.
So for almost 7 months she's been sat dead in the garage at home and she fired up first time, my God what a sound. I had the reverse megaphone exhaust fitted and loud and proud she was, tbh it was too loud and too harsh on my ears so I quickly changed back to the original stock exhaust which in my ears was a lot better sounding. So finally the last few things that I need to do is rear mudguard to fix in place, a few more tweeks on the wiring loom position and last but not least an MOT by the end of this week.
I know it will not be to everyone's taste but I'm really very happy and proud with the way it's turned out. Yes it does still need a proper paint job but as I'm now skint that will have to wait. My main aim is to enjoy the rest of the good weather and break in that Brooks saddle before the end of the year.
Here are a few photos of what it looked like and what it's looking like now, hope you enjoy.
PS if there are any Enfield riders/ clubs near Hull please shout out.
