It's good to have someone check these things. Here in Guersey, we have no MOT or equivalent. This is mitigated by our having a top speed limit of 35 mph. However, I recently took a trip to France with the family. Before I went, I gave the car once over; lights tires etc. all seemed okay; plenty of tread. It was only after driving about 100 miles also on French motorways that I parts with the steering turned over to the left. Both front tires worn down so much on there inner edges steel wire was showing!

No, I was just on my apple iMoan (iPhone), which gets very upset if I try to use lots of code!

When I bought a Venom clubman four years ago, it came with new TT100 tyres front and rear. New, but hard. They were replaced with Avon Roadriders. I always say to people on a bike there is only one thing between you and the tarmac and that is your tyres. A bit trite I know but it never ceases to amaze me the number of people that have the 'it will do' attitude highlighted by Bullet below. As to MOTs - I use a seasoned mechanic and wont skimp on having things done correctly.

The new tyre, tube and rim tape arrived and were fitted, by me, today. During this work another potential killer that even the MOT man wouldn't have been able to spot reared its' ugly head. Taking off the rim tape revealed lots of insulation tape wrapped around the rim and taking this off revealed all of the spoke ends were poking through the nipples towards the inner tube by as much as 3mm - I had to grind every one of them flush with the domed heads of the nipples to get them out of harm's way. Mind, I suppose if the tyre had blown out, the cracked sidewalls would have been blamed in any case. Regardless, if you buy a bike which has had the wheels rebuilt, it might be worth checking things like this sooner rather than later, just for peace of mind.

Oh heck,

'Poke by Spoke' would not have been very pleasant at speed.

I am starting to think about a 1959'ish super meteor, but whatever I get, I will make sure that is checked out. (will change the tyres anyway).

Thanks for that bit of wisdom!
