Hello all,

The inlet manifold rubber hose on my sixty5 is starting to show some nice cracks, and it's started affecting the mix a bit (at first at least, until the engine warms up and the rubber expands and seals it's cracks). I've got two questions, if anyone cares to enlighten me a bit.

1.Until I get the replacement part, are there any tested hacks or temporary solutions that can be applied? I was thinking I'd tape all around the rubber hose with electric tape, but I'm not quite sure if it's strong enough to withstand the temperatures. Any ideas for a temporary way to seal the cracks would be most welcome.

2. I have a bit of a cramped situation at the throttle cable end of the carb, it sits really close to the tank. Nothing is getting bent or anything, but still I think it would be better to have some room there, if only to make work in that area easier. Seeing as I will be replacing the rubber hose anyway, I thought I could kill two birds with one stone and maybe find a shorter hose, to move the carb a bit closer to the cylinder. Does anyone see any potential problems with that? Also, are there different diameters between different models, or is it pretty much the same?

Hi Kostas, instead of getting a new rubber sleeve, get the rubber one piece inlet manifold from the earlier Bullets, I bought one for my Sixty5 and it's shorter than the original setup and goes straight on. It will move the carb forward away from the tank.
You may just have to ease the holes to slip over the mounting studs, but the carb fits ok.

By the way Kostas, have you still got the air recirculation gubbins fitted? If so, ypu will probably need a bit longer connector between the carb and the air filter.

Dan: Thanks for the info, good to know that so-called "easy fixes" on REnfields are indeed easy fixes, I'll gaffer tape the life out of it till I get the replacement.

Nettshubby: I had a feeling that would be the way to go, when you say earlier Bullets, you mean something like part #142681 from our hosts (Inlet Manifold, at eg. 1991 500 Bullet)? Re your second question, I honestly have no idea whatsoever what you are referring to, although I think mine is a bog-down standard 2004 sixty-5. However, the connecting rubber hose between carb and filterbox is much wider in the middle, seems it can stretch some, if that helps your question.

Kostas, I believe I ordered one from a 92 or 93 bullet, I can check the receit if you like. If you still have the filter box then I would say you still have the standard setup. Mine came to me with it all removed and a cone filter fitted. I jetted up to suit and it goes rather well!

Hi cheliotk: When you buy the hose, ask them if it has to be fitted with the wide band against the cylinder head or can it be fitted any way round?
I have been told the first option is easier to fit. I cannot see any difference between either end.
Refer to my query on page 2 of this board.

Kostas, here is a pic of my Sixty5, 2003 model. As you can see, it doesn`t have the filter box, but has a cone type filter and free-er flowing exhaust.
