I have been told that the inlet manifold rubber hose between carburettor and cylinder head, has to be fitted with the wide band against the head; otherwise it will be difficult to seat properly. I have measured the hose bands with a vernier gauge and the difference is only 1/32", about the thickness of a fingernail. It doesn`t make sense.

I've got a new one here on the shelf as spare direct from Hitchcocks and its exactly the same both ends ? Maybe there thinking of the one between the Carb And tea caddy air box ?

On both my bikes (iron engine 500's) it fits both ways round equally. I'd be interested to hear where this advice comes from? Both my bikes have the aftermarket tea caddy filters, with the filter inside the tea caddy, not in the toolbox.

I fitted the one piece rubber carb mount/manifold from the earlier Bullets, because the inlet rubber sleeve on my Sixty5 put the cable adjuster up against the underside of the tank, and it vibrated against it. It is shorter and moves the carb nearer the engine and away from the tank. It fitted straight on the engine studs, though a very snug fit. The stud holes may have to be eased on some engines. Ray

Ditto Ray. I have a 2001 4 speed right change 500. I fitted a single piece rubber manifold I got for a couple of quid. It enabled me to tidy up the whole inlet area losing the PAV tube at the same time. I had the same problem with the top of the carb fouling the under side of the tank. Less flexing as my carb isn't supported on the air filter side having a meshed trumpet, I was always worried that the carb would fall off when setting the choke. It need only very slight fettling, but it's worked a treat.

I was told by our hosts whom I contacted to verify if this was true, after being told at a RE meeting that another member had been told this by our hosts. Maybe the newer parts are made to different specifications than older parts. The hose fits just as well either way round. Confused, as usual.
