Hey, Presto, I've only just realised that you were talking about something specific in this particular thread, rather than the general behaviour in this forum. Would you be willing to point out what you were referring to? I ask because now I'm worried it might be me who was impolite, even though I never had the slightest intention of being so. And if I was, then I sincerely apologise.

Hi Thack - don't worry. I was referring to something specific - but rest-assured it was nothing you said - you are always a model of politeness - and its good to 'banter' with you. (I wont bother drawing attention to what I objected to - not worth dragging it up again.) ;-)

OK, Presto, thanks. To be perfectly honest, I can sometimes get a bit "intense" in a debate, which I think sometimes people might find a bit intimidating, but to me that is entirely different from being rude or offensive, which is something I always try to avoid. Anyway, that's enough on the matter!

Sorry for my slow reply to an interesting discussion. It's been a rather wintery here by Oz standards so not much time has been spent on the bike. Looking forward to a glorious spring soon. Anyway, two things have improved matters. Raising the needle a notch to the highest position and clearing the airlock in the fuel line.

Let me explain the last one. When the fuel is first turned on the carby fills and fuel backs up the line to level with part way up the bowl. This can be cleared by bleeding air at the tap before tightening the hose clamp. There's a small air bubble remaining which doesn't seem to be a problem. I suppose I expected the air to bleed back into the tank. The supplied fuel hose has been cut back to form a neat fall from the tap to carby i.e. no drop and rise again.

More than happy with the conversion.

@ExREEFI: Out of interest, what made you decide to switch from fuel injection to the carburettor? I've just got my EFi and like the fuel injection system, but am open to making improvements.

I wanted a carby to fiddle with and the EFI was being a bit cantankerous, particularly with a more open silencer than the stock monster. As it turns out when I removed the throttle body a piece of the insulating spacer and o-ring was missing which must have been allowing air to leak in at the head. Even so, I'm having fun making this work and I like the look. There's no way it's an improvement on a well sorted EFI though. Fuel consumption doesn't seem to be noticeably affected, but you don't get the ride and forget characteristics of EFI (e.g. with cold engine). I like these imperfections, or shall we say - character.

Just out of interest how do the studs line up to suit the Amal or is it like the earlier heads that required off set studs

The kit comes with a machined adapter to mate the carby with the head. A couple of studs replace the stock bolts securing the EFI throttle body.

It all bolts together easily. I was told of problems with the tank adapter not lining up with bolt holes due to manufacturing (in)tolerances, but mine fitted fine luckily. The only issue was needing to bash an indent in the tank seam for throttle cable clearance - and choke cable if fitted.
