Lewis, thanks for the advice. I have just checked my tank. It is not touching the frame. There is 40thou clearance on the left hand side of the tank, and 55thou on the right hand side. That is with the weight of a full tank of petrol, apart from that which has leaked out and badly stained the cylinder head!!!

it was worth checking it out,so it cant have been that which caused your leak, that brings it down to a poor quality sender unit & seal. I think I may have already mentioned this but The leak I had has also badly stained the cylinder head & I have tried to clean it with all sorts but it wont come off completely.

I like you am a bit p*ssed off already, as I have also mentioned in a previous post on here,I never had this with the old bangers I had in the 60's, now 54 years on who would believe this could happen on a Brand New Bike

I have no special interest in this subject except a general one to do with all Enfields but I am struck by how many views this subject is getting, 1550 at the moment, I can't remember such a popular subject! Is this a reflection of the number of GTs sold or folk's interest with perhaps a view to buying? My local Dealer hasn't sold any and I've only seen one on the road... I'm interested in your views. As the person who started this thread on GT Quality, I do have a special interest in all of the feedback, what I would like to see now is a response from the Importers.
To date my only gripe has been the
Silver Paint on the pipes, sorted with a Stainless System and the Wiring sorted out with some Shrink Wrap, but when I read of all the leaks etc. I start to worry,
I have no intention of running up thousands of miles, I just want a bike good for 100 miles + on a sunny Sunday Morning, but let me down and watch out Mr. Enfield.
As I have said in previous posts, my dealer ( 100% Enfield) seemed resigned to Problems, "you should have seen them a couple of years ago" was his response with a shrug of the shoulder.
I for one was sold on the hype of "Improved Quality" and the show bike certainly did look good in the Showroom, did they knock 100 Specials out for Display/Test Bikes now their is a Question.

Jones43 - I've written to the guy I know at the importers - we'll see if they say anything. If there really were very widespread faults it'd have hit the press by now. http://www.royalenfield535gt.com/quality/ covers my views and in other places on the web site my views on the bike generally. Crossa how long ago was it that you had the 3rd sender unit fitted, I am just wondering if my replacement is out of the new modified batch ?

If Eicher India don't get their act together on this it will be doomed to failure...
However you will always get the Enfield Enthusiast who will make excuses for manufacturers like Eicher,
they seems to enjoy the challenge & its usually them who love tinkering more than riding their bikes, very strange IMHO

Lewis, the 'New Improved' sender unit was fitted about 4 weeks ago. I'm not sure exactly when, as the dealer had the bike for a couple of weeks while waiting for the part to arrive.

I've ridden a couple of these now, and liked them. Regarding the quality issues, this is not the first model to have initial problems or recall issues. With any luck they won't drive everyone mad before they sort them, or put people off. I'm thinking, for example of the first Minis which stopped when it rained, till they covered the electrics behind the "radiator". I believe there was a Rolls Royce model that was perfectly waterproof till you opened the boot lid which, if wet on the outside, ran off into the boot. Etc. Seems like a typical situation, though not a good one....I'm not defending any of these, just HOPING that once teething troubles are sorted, everyone will be happier...... Maybe???
