I am now on my third fuel sender unit in under 1000 miles. This third unit was supposedly an improved version. I have, this morning, filled up the tank for the first time since the unit was replaced. The tank is leaking badly. I am not happy!!!!!

Crossa a few posts back I noticed that "the low quality parts aren't that serious" so I don't see you have a problem and if you do it can't be serious. lol

Crossa, that's quite a few now according to the dealer I got mine from who's had 5 back including mine.
they change everything under the tank & re-seal.problem for me now is I am a bit nervous of going on a decent run for fear of something breaking..Give me an old school British bike any day whether ir be an old one or a new one, Triumph takes a lot of beating these days. I had all the old school British in the early to late 60's most of which were many owner high mileage bikes But NON of them ever let me down & I use to thrash them to the limit ,did not have any of them serviced or even an change the oil, I also had a RE 250 GT in 1965 & did not have any problems at all with it, not even the gear box.

James Captain,Fanny Barnet,BSA bantom,Norton Domi' Ariel Golden Arrow,Triumph 3TA,Triumph Tiger 90,Triumph Bonneville,RE 250 Continental GT. I repeat never ever broke down on any of them...favourite run was to Skeggy which we did every weekend >> Happy Days !!

I,m glad I didn't trade in my Watsonian Clubman EFI. I've just done 180 miles round Leicestershire and Lincolnshire this afternoon. Lovely ride!!!

Just for information, is it a leaky seal or is the tank itself split/ has a bad weld?

Because the bike is still under warranty, I haven't investigated further than what I can see with the tank still in place. The leak appeared to be from the sender unit, which the dealer confirmed. He said it was the unit itself, not just the gasket. I haven't even bothered to investigate this latest leak, as I have lost faith in the bike, and, I have to admit I am a bit annoyed with myself at having been taken in with all the hype about the improved quality of the Continental GT. It's my own fault, of course. I lusted after a Continental GT in my youth, but had to settle for a ratty Crusader Sports (Is SRP801 still out there?), so when RE brought out the new Continental GT, I just had to have one.

No its not the metal seam [not yet anyway]its the sender unit & its seal as Crosser says, also on most of the bikes from what I am told the rear of the tank actually touches the Frame, with mine it was just on the rear left had side, this is not good as the vibration through the frame is transmitted through the fuel tank & the sender unit & its seal are on the left,what I have done now [as Hitchcocks suggests] is fit a couple of Nylon Washers on the Rear Tank bolts under the seat to lift it very slightly off the frame. Fingers crossed I wont have any further problems.
Note for Crosser, you say you have had this problem 3 times, so if you haven't already done the Nylon Washer thing I would suggest you do its got to help.
