This just in - a 350 Clipper took a 4th and 2nd place yesterday at Lydden Hill in the pre '62 350 races. Today, after minor adjustments it won both of the races it ran in and was only just beaten over the line by a 350 'Supermanx', winner from the specials class race running at the same time. The Supermanx has disc brakes front and rear, six speed gearbox and up to the minute carburation, The Clipper has a 7" Crusader type SLS front brake, half width 6" rear brake, 5 gears and a fifty odd year old Amal TT carb. I think my Brother, Ian, who rode this machine can give himself [and the bike] a pat on the back. Well done, man and machine !! Regards, Paul.

Thanks, Scalyback! All it will cost is an oil change, filter and a basic service, such as check primary chain tension and change that oil as well, check pushrod adjustment, drain the catch bottle from the crankcase breather and one last thing will be to take off the timing cover and check the oil pump drive worm and spindle and replace them if necessary - these don't last very long on the racers. Possibly a tyre or two, alter the gearing for the next circuit [Darley Moor, I believe] and put it away, ready for next time. Regards, Paul.

Nice work gents, it would have been great to see, though I was busy watching my friend Tim racing his BMW outfit in the CRMC meeting up the road at Brands Hatch! Oliver Linsdell was booked to race a Royal Enfield in the 500 Clubman's event there but had broken his foot at Scarborough the previous weekend, so no RE for us... (except the one I rode there and back). Given Jones43's concerns about £££ replicas, perhaps someone here fancies having a go on a BW-tuned genuine Bullet in CRMC events too?

Just a thought.

Thanks again for the kind replies! It is possible to build a pretty competitive R.E. for less than a quarter of that money and still have lots of fun with it. Running costs, maintenance and repairs would be cheaper than for most other machines, too. Regards, Paul.
