Is this a 'for real' 1959 bullet, as it don't have a big head? No idea it's real value?

Only I am starting to think about getting an older RE, pre 1960, in great condition. A twin might just be the ticket! Will need it in 1 year, 10 months time, but can purchase just about anytime. Sadly, I will have to sell Thunderbolt then, unless I come up with a legal way around it. (Tornado stays with me till the end!)

It's a 350, the Bighead is a 500 only despite some confusing literature at the time. It looks ok but engine and frame numbers would help. There were a number of Bullet variants at the time and I think this may be a hybrid, reasons being firstly, I think the 350 had 17" wheels for 1959 and second, the crankcase breather looks like the earlier Bullet type as used on the Clipper. Also the horn is not original, not a big problem but worth knowing! Price, a tad on the high side but it's a Dealer and we don't know more than we can see in the pics! REgards, Mark

Aprat from the 350 engine it looks almost identical to my old '57 Bullet, the engine breather is the same and is shown in our host's on-line parts book for 1959! The tank is also the earlier style but it all looks much nicer than the "correct" bits for the year - possibly a '58 model that sat unsold in a dealer's showroom for a while?

Sorry Adrian but you're wrong. If you look at the breather on the bike it is the copper tube type and the '59 350 had the push on duckbill. I have a Clipper parts book somewhere and will look it up to see if it is there in 59. I didn't say it yesterday (it not being my intention to push someone into or out of buying a bike!) but I think the bike on offer is a nice bitsa, engine and frame numbers would tell all!

OK, so Maybe I should not jump unwarily on this one.

I now thinking more of a twin, a meteor or similar? something the parts are not too costly, and that I can fix myself.

It will need to be a good quality bike, that looks nice and runs well. I will learn all the pushrod, primary chain, lubrication adjustments and make it a very happy RE.

Will really be looking in about 18 months, so if a nice bike comes up...

Hi Scalyback.

I have a genuine 350 Bullet for sale _ 1961 with valuable number plate. It is Black like the one in the photo and in very good condition. The bike has correct numbers and is corect in every way but the colour. It came out of the factory as Maroon. I think it looks better in black. It has been orthenticated by the Royal Enfield Club and I have the letter. I am open to offers around the £3.000 mark but will not come down to far.

Thanks for the offer Ken,

As much as I appreciate it, the bike has to be pre 1960.

more a point of law than anything else.

Scaly - How authentic is "authentic", anyway ?? eBay item #141339974403 is another Bullet, this time a 1965 500, but how much of this bike is genuinely 1965 ?
