Can anyone help - I'm new to this. I've fitted a new (Mikcarb) to my bullet 500. When I turn on the tap, petrol pours out of the tubes on the carb. What are the tubes for (idle curiosity) and how can I stop this. Thanks!

With Out Knowing The Bike Or Carb Model.. A: Your Float or Niddle is Sticking Hence Flooding (Leting in to Much Petrol) wich is Pouring out the Over Flow pipes......."Just Check First You Have Not Overt Tigtend any Thing on Conecting (Mainly Solid Fit 350cc) as You Can temporey warp the Carb"..And Thake Of The Bottom Float Camber (Carefully) Dont Lose the Neddle and Check the Floats.."They is a Thin Tabb that Can Carefully Be Bent To Adjust Neddle hieght ..But it is Not unknown for New Floats to Have Holes in".."So Shake Float and Listen For Petrol or Put in Jug Of Warm Water and Look for Bubbles?..."It is a Good Basic Carb,,Read up on Here and Have a Look at some drawings" No rewal Problems,,,,,,,(But Take apart on the Kitchen table First Time and Look at the Bits)...Good Luck,,IMHO ;0)

Sorry Crap Spelling and typeing I Hope you Know what i mean....I Know see its a 500 so they Should be Know warping Probs..But Check Cables,"Do's the Slide Click Shut?"..But My Bet is its the Float!!

Agree probably a float needle blocked, its always worth striping a new carb before fitting as they can have bits of machine swarf or other detritus being left in..

Also just to check for correct jets properly secured.. Lower tube is the chamber overflow like on a toilet cistern and i believe the upper is a breather tube..

Advise fitting a filter in the fuel line, very cheap and worth it especially if the tank is perhaps a little rusty or with flaky paint/liner, constant problems of this sort else..

Needle valve not closing, causes,



a) Needle valve installed upside down.

b) grit, dirt, from tank jamming needle valve open. (remove needle valve turn fuel on for a second, then put back together.

c) Wrongly adjusted 'tab' on the float, leading to needle valve not closing before overflow level reached (think dodgy ball cock on toilet system).

d) float holed and leaking petrol, thus they do not lift up high enough for the needle valve to cut the fuel off. (shake float, listen for noise)

e) needle valve corroded and not seating properly. (clean with a little Autosol from a tube, just to grind a faction off. clean VERY WELL after.

f) blocked air vent in tank. Unlikely, but on a hot day, pressure can build enough to push the float down! Loosen tank filler, listen for hissing.
g) other things I not though of!


As mentioned above, a small fuel filter is a wise investment. I found Tornado had one, and it was full of crap! I will now remember to check it every so often.
