Re - 1965 Crusader Sports:
Q for you all, This is about the 3 wires which come from the stator. They need replacing due to them having age related cracks in plastic outer, sinse taking the timing chest off i have found that someone has tried to solder new wires onto the existing 3 origonal wires, but have left a crap solder job, is just a matter of time before the wires part company. What wires are used on a new stator, do they use bog standard wires or do they have a heat resistant coating on them? Any ideas or direction to go with it, have tought of using standard bike wires then slip a sleave on all 3 wires.

Replace the stator. You can try to solder on new leads but in my experience they won't last long because the heat generated when they are in use makes the copper brittle and difficult to successfully solder. If you do get it to work then you must sleeve all the bare wires individually and then all three together for extra protection. Good luck, REgards, Mark

Yes, I'd second that one MARK......New ones are not THAT expensive compared to giving a 1965 item yet more grief !!-------------- just for interest sake have a look at the photos on my "Triumphant" Part 2 thread in the SOCIAL/OTHER section......

You can solder them just need to get it good and clean and be careful and quick you don't want too much heat getting into the wires
