Hi Michael. I use Power steering fluid to lubricate my speedo cable and in fact all my cables as it never gets tacky and works extremely well. Also check that the back bearing where the cable screws onto the speedo is perhaps dry which will create resistance on the inner cable and twist it off. Good luck.

Doesn't help you but front wheel drive speedo cables are a lot more liable to break because they are being flexed all the time. Rear wheel drive is much more reliable.

Rather ironically one ofthe throttle cables became really sticky quite quickly over the past 2 days. A few broken threads was the culprit... luckily I had a spare :)

Grump! I don't, however, have a spare throttle rotor thingy! New cable keeps slipping out of the old throttle rotor which is damaged a little and has weakened and fatigued over time. Held in by a washer for now... but new throttle rotor been ordered. Thought this would be a 'free' repair!!

Thanks to the helpful garage in Paisley who kindly handed over a selection of washers to help wedge the cable nipple in the rotor though! Another wonderful roadside repair in the life of Michael and his EFI!
