When you want to post a picture from another site on here; right-click on the picture, then click on SAVE or SAVE PICTURE AS. It will go to your My Pictures album, then click SAVE in the box at the bottom, it will be stored there. You need Photobucket to download it from the My Pictures album by clicking SELECT. Then choose the HTML link from the LINKS menu on the bottom- right to copy it, the box will momentarily change colour to Amber and copied will show. Then go to the message board and click PASTE to load it under your message.

The simple answer to your first closed question is NO. There is side play in all big ends and whilst you may peer at it and conclude that the crank and rod are true and square, it can oly be checked accurately by taking the crank out and mounting it between centres and checking it. It is most unlikely that the gudgeon pin moving, due to the use of old circlips, would have any effect on the true running of the crank and rod. Incidentally with a name like "Widows Son", I thought that the suggestion of using a square was most appropriate brother.

Reading some comment here and being unable to see photos it seems I am not in posession of all the facts surrounding this occurrence. I therefore retract my post ofering an opinion that was based on the original information given and have no further comment to make on the matter.

Hi guys----------Oh well, this is turning out to be another of those "classic" forum requests for help, where the full situation is only revealed after a lengthy series of questions and answers........It just makes it frustrating for those trying to offer an informed opinion in the first place and why I can sympathise with friend Beezabryan's action.....JOE, is it ??..Would you please answer my questions as to how many miles have been covered since the de-carbonising and why you chose to remove the piston when doing that ??........... As a Time-served Marine Engineer (Royal Navy) and with 20 years involved with Steam and Diesel Engineering I would whole-heartily agree with the need to remove the crank and set it between centres....anything else is only an indicator at best.......I can't seem to get those links to work...Is there a video showing the crank rotating and do the flywheels appear to be "flexing" ??......If YES then it's a crank out job, simple as that !!!.........

Hello again, thanks for the help. Yes, I posted a youtube video. This is the link:

I have done 3000 klm trouble-free since decoking, in January 2014. I took the piston off because I didn't know any better at the time. Not blaming anyone but myself. I had a lot of carbon build up, got some gunk under the exhaust valve and had to use a brass brush and ATF to get it all off. Then I put the piston back on the conrod with the same circlips. Like I said, I didn't know any better. A lesson learned the hard way is a lesson well learned.

I will take the crank out if it is necessary and have a machinist check it. I had no intention of deceiving anyone. Norm was telling me that the gudgeon pin busted out of the piston side because the crank has to be out. If that is true then thats true, but I have had no indications anything was wrong. The bike barely vibrates when riding 100kph! I've done 13,500 klm since the crank was fitted with a roller bearing and steel conrod and have enjoyed every minute. Just a bit confused.

Joe, you won't get vibration from it because the wheels are only out a small amount but enough to twists the rod slightly enough to grab the gudgeon and walk it sideways. As I told you there will be wear on the big end and small end but once the wheels are trued up you can probably live with it till it requires another rebuild. Besides there is piston bits in the bottom of the sump so any ideas of getting out of this without pulling it down not worth thinking about.
