Ignition problem on a 125 flying flea, infrequently I get a spark but generally none at all, I've re done the timing for point to open just before TDC, tried 3 condensers, some brand new, tried two plugs, replaced the points and the HT coil is new. the only thing I cant check is the magnets on the flywheel. anyone got some suggestions.

I had the same problem on a 60 year old Ransomes mower, some muppet had fitted a spark plug cap (looked new) with a resistor inside it which had corroded and also the plug had one too. Just check for resistance.

Forgot, if no joy the magnets should be north/south pole.

I had a Villiers 9E with this.
Finally had the magnets re-magnetised and - had sparks like the national grid!

Hello Steve.I had similar problems when I bought my Flea last year.Spark just not fat enough to fire the engine ( although later I proved the low tension side was Ok as the lights worked)So I ended up cheating by converting it to 6 V coil ignition.Hiding the coil & kill switch under the seat and putting the sacrificial battery in a 37 Pat small pack on the left side of the pannier.Works great and I can almost bet it will start 2nd or 3rd time. Regards Michael. Incidentally has anyone got a pair of yokes for the folding footrests? I have the foot pegs but need the yokes. Also looking for a Villiers carb.

I have a little cyclemotor with the same issue. I'm pretty certain its the flywheel magnets but struggle to work out how the magnets are set up in order to remagnetize. I'd love to know who has the inside info on re doing these as I have access to a capacitor discharge magnetizer and can make the dummy stator but can't work out where to position it.

Hi Mick, which way did you wire the coil, I guess it doesn't matter but I would like to know how you set it up. I have one here that has driven me nuts for a long time because I can't get the rotor off because I believe it has ridden over the keyway and it is stuck far too hard to try and remove with the puller without risk of real damage so converting to coil ignition seems my only alternative. I got an Ensign running on a battery to the coil ignition a couple of years ago, start first kick every time but then had to switch back to magneto because it wouldn't rev, must be some sort of ignition advance in the magneto setup but at least it would start easily and no big deal to just flick the switch back to the magneto
