What's all this about the 4-speed box not having a neutral switch? I've got one. Was it fitted to the 500 only? The switch is located on the rear of the box.

Barry_Q I would love to see a photo of your FOUR SPEED box with a neutral light switch , are you sure your bullet isn't a Honda with new badges?

I've got a 1999 500 Lightning. Yup, it certainly has a neutral switch. There's a neutral light on the instrument panel just above the tacho and speedo. I've got four gears and the gear indicator is still located on the end cover by the neutral lever.

That's OK. One thing though. All the normal Bullets I've seen have a speedo with a neutral light position on them. I would've thought that the gearboxes had the neutral switches. Perhaps they weren't fitted and that the hole is still in the gearbox.

barry , only the later 5 speed ones had a neutral light on the speedo/cascette , bikes prior to the bullet 65 only had 4 speed boxes (don,t know about home market indian ones)

Right. I think I've cracked it. Bullets had a gearbox case with part number 111050. Lightnings had a gearbox case with part number 170177. It looks like the neutral light was fitted to the Lightning only.

I've got the standard contact breakers on my engine. As for the primary cover. I don't think it's unique. I've got a 4 wire alternator though.

Hi All,

Sorry but I think my question got mugged and it went off on a tangent. Right I will forget about the neutral light, but I would still like to have an indicator warning light/s. I want to fix one/two onto the headlamp cassette, but where to wire to. Also I bought an LED bulb with a resistor to solder to it, and I want to use this to light the speedo, Please can anyone help?

Cheers

Mike G
