Hello,
Can I ask, has anybody fitted modern rubber to Redditch 3.25/17 wheel rims.
My '59 350 bullet needs new tyres soon and I've been wondering if there was anything else other than the Avon Speedmaster front, Safety Mileage rear route.
Modern equivalent is apparently 100/80-17, and Pirelli, amongst a few others, have some in this size.
Will they fit?
Anyone tried anything?

Hello Baswick --------- I'm surprised to be the first one here but is that right ?? -- 17" wheel rims on a 1959 350 Bullet ?? It probably is--- I'm still learning but that seems VERY small to me. Thankyou for replys, Yes I did post the same question on another forum. Just thought I'd ask here as well. Looks like no-one has experimented with this and I know bugger all.
Alan R, 3.25/17 is the right size for some late 50's/early 60's enfields and Triumphs. The ebay links you posted aren't up to much, Thanks for your time in looking though.
When the time comes I'll ask at my local bike tyre place or just go the traditional Avon Speedmaster/SM route.

Bazwick. I Know Bugger All is a serious and difficult academic qualification to achieve as Beezabryan will confirm. It is not to be taken lightly. It entails serious and very demanding demonstrations of total mechanical, electrical and technical ineptitude which often way beyond the capabilites of your average person, let alone a motorcyclist. The vetting committee will only consider any claims for the award when they are convinced of ones ineptitude. The benefits are the final award of a much covetted award which permits one the right to have letters after ones name.

I know this will have caused you some confusion but look at it as perhaps an opportunity to impress the adjudicating panel.

Hi BAZWICK ----- was it the link not working or the tyres not what you wanted ?? Try COPY then place it in the E-bay SEARCH to show the tyre. Also have a look at their own site----it's modern enough and suitable for our type of machines, I would have thought.

Bazwick, olderIndian Enfields had 3.25x19 Avon SMs on the front and more recent models have a 90x90 Avon AM26 Roadrider either 19 inches diam for the Electra models or 18 inches for the Classic EFI models. Thes have a more rounded modern profile and although marked "tubeless" on the tyre they work ok with a tube on the Enfields. They cost a bit more than the SMs, but they have more grip (which is why classic racers like them) and I would think Avons could supply a 17 inch size

Hi Bazwick my opinion is that Avon Speedmaster & SM are perfectly adequate for a 350 Bullet and they look right.

Just for interest I'm wondering exactly what bike you've got.
1948-62 G2 has 3.25 x 19 front and rear. Likewise all other Bullet models.
1955-57 350 Clipper 3.25x18 front & rear.
The only models equipped with 17" wheels were some 250cc machines.

Bazwick 3-25x17 is correct ( can check on parts list).I am running an Avon Speedmaster front and Avon SM rear,pressures solo 18/23 on a 1960 350 Bullet
with no problems.

Beezabryan, bike is a '59 350 Bullet, magneto ignition, later casquete, 17" wheels and all that. I'm no expert at all, but it is correct.
Yorkie, I agree Speedmasters and SM's would be fine. Eight years ago I fitted my Bullet with Avon Supremes 3.00-17 front and 3.50-17 rear, wrong sizes I know but I've been happy with them. You can tell I don't do loads of miles, tyres have life left in them, just think they may be getting a bit old and want to treat the old girl. Just wondered if in the passing years anyone had found or tried a modern sized alternative.
My other two wheeled motorised hobby is an old '59 Lambretta, where tyre quality is very much improved over days gone by. You can get tubeless rims as well, I've got them. As someone who has experienced a high speed blowout, you do feel, slightly, safer.
MadMike, not sure what the commitee would make of a scooter, me being a Mocker an' all.
