Greaser hi, yes, I'm using an iridium plug and the higher octane Shell petrol. I haven't fitted the new silencer yet – actually what I'm going to do is get a Power Commander from Power Commander themselves but also the Autotune – which means being able to play around with the fuel air ratio, as I said. But it does mean putting in a Wideband sensor M18 – the current one is an M12. So there will be a bit of fabrication to do. I do think it runs smoother with the Shell V Power fuel but strictly speaking it shouldn't need it. Also, there's just the simple fact that they get better, smoother and more powerful the more miles they do. A lot of the road tests are on very low mileage bikes and in my very long (perhaps too long!) experience of buggering about with motorbikes, sorry owning, riding and improving them, what we used to call big singles get better with age. And, yes I was thinking of a 19 tooth sprocket. I don't actually find it too high geared in fact on my 'test ride" today, which is somehow turned into a 70 mile last round the Cheshire countryside, a couple of times I pulled away in second. Without huge clutch slip. Agreed, not to be recommended but an interesting test nonetheless. What Hitchcock's have said to me is that they are trying to get more performance out of the bike without changing the piston - so we will see what they come up with next. Really the only test is a rolling road and then step by step changes. As for the big end – I don't know. If I would criticise the design the unit construction with a rather measly little filter does seem rather weak. I'm about to change to synthetic oil so we'll see what that does. On the gearing - i think it's a matter of personal preference. I'm quite happy to keep it in third or fourth and use fifth as a bit of an overdrive - that's basically the way it used to run my Velocette. But in standard trim the Enfield isn't up to the 19 tooth I agree. Stephen
