Mine also deteriorates a bit when hotter. Are you convinced, however, that you have adjusted it up far enough? Obviously, without making it slip all the time! There does need to be a bit left... Good luck, Chris

Slacken the cable adjusters at the lever and gearbox end, remove the oval plate on the gearbox cover and loosen the locknut underneath. Turn adjusting screw until resistance is felt, no more, and tighten locknut. Re tighten cable adjusters until minimum free play at the lever. If that doesn't work strip the clutch and check for warped plates. Many will disagree but I find the recommended 15/40 engine oil in the primary case is better at reducing clutch drag than ATF. Make sure the primary and drive chains are correctly tensioned.

It could also be a fractured actuating arm causing a lack of lift. Not uncommon on these.

Also Jenks you can watch the outer gearbox cover flex when you pull the clutch in, get the gear box casing stiffener mod from our host, makes all the difference.

Bertie, clutch stiffener won't help on a 5 speed

If the free play at the handlebar lever increases with heat and you can`t pull it in far enough to truly disengage the clutch plates; this caused by the clutch rods lengthening. If your clutch rods have a steel ball between the two halves, replace it with a ceramic ball (1/4"?). this stops the heat travelling the whole length of the rods.

Leon,
I put Ant's bitsa 54 with an Indian motor and box in it and I put about a 100ks on it to test it and it has the most fantastic Enfield clutch I have ever seen, problem is I have no idea why or how to replicate it. It is so good you can select neutral when stationary.

Leon, where I disagree with your theory is if the rod/ball were expanding this would increase the lifting of the pressure plate thus causing slip not drag and drag is where the problems come from.I believe the mainshaft expands at a greater rate than the rod
