Hi, I have bought a 2008 350 Bullet which has Boyer ignition fitted. The bike feels as if it is too far retarded. I have looked everywhere trying to find the fully advanced degrees, and also the tick over degrees and have come up with nothing. Can anyone tell me the fully advanced degrees please. Thanks in advance.

8mm BTDC fully advanced. Don't know how many degrees though.

Hi Geoff,

This works fine on my 250cc Clipper, amend this to suit your machine

To work out the ignition timing try this! multiply the rotor by 3.142 (pi)

My rotor diameter was 70mm x 3.142 = 220mm (circumference of the rotor)

Next divide 220mm by 360(degrees)= 0.16mm

Therefore one degree of the rotor circumference = 0.61mm

My static timing needs 5 degrees so multiply this by 0.61mm = 3.00mm

Transfer this 3.00mm to the right of T.D.C. and that's your static timing mark

MY fully advanced needs 30degrees, so multiply this by 0.61 = 18.3mm

So fully advanced wants to be 18.3mm to the right of T.D.C.

Cheers
Howzie.

Hello Geoff,

Just as an example, if your rotor was 74mm Dia, then multiply by 3.142 = 232mm (circumference) divide this by 360 (degrees)=0.64mm, so every degree equals this, multiply 0.64mm by 12 comes out at 7.6 degrees or by 13 comes out at 8.3 degrees,
Take your pick, 12 degrees or 13 degrees.
Cheers Howzie.

Crikey, no need for such complications. I borrowed my kids school protractor, the wifes tippex and set mine up using the Boyer instructions. Done it once many years ago and never had to touch it since!

Have look on the Boyer site, I had a look the other day and iI'm sure the pickups were aligned at top dead centre.

The last electronic ign I fitted some time ago to my bullet was also set at top dead centre, though I believe it was a Newtrpnics kit.

If your setup uses the points, it may have to be set as per the original points system, though I dont know about that.

Ray.
