Do the heavier clutch springs go under the adjusters or the lighter ones?

It'll have to be heavy under adjusters otherwise the soft ones will not be able to act. Why do you need heavy springs? Tell us model, year, standard clutch (or not) what fluid you are using in primary case etc.

I have standard springs of which 3 are stiffer. I have fitted a 5 plate clutch but couldn't remember where the stiffer springs went.
The bike is a 1967 Mk1a Interceptor, I am doing a complete engine rebuild for a friend. I will be using automatic transmission fluid in the chain case as that seems to be what everyone is using.

Stuart, I fitted a 5 plate clutch to my Inter and the fibres lasted about 200 miles, went to 4 Barnet plates and no prodlems since. Personally I would do the reverse to Mark with the softer springs under the adjusters so you can increase the tension but this is just my idea. You won't really know till you get it on the road and see how the clutch works because they can be a clutch that tries your patience
