I've got an '89 350 and I would agree that 45-50 with a chunky pillion is about right. With a sports exhaust, bellmouth/conical filter and appropriate jetting, everything is about 5mph faster. 1 up, I would see an indicated 60 - 65; standard gearing, if I still lived in the UK I would be tempted to go up a tooth. Here in Guernsey, speed limits are 25 in town, 35 in the country and 15 in "Ruettes Tranquil". I'm "geared for the Island" you might say.

My front mudguard was always a bit crooked - from new in 2001 - I found that one of the stays was significantly longer than it's matching one on the other side; so different that there was room to drill an extra hole in one to make it match the other! Much neater, but there's not a lot of clearance.....

Rider & pillion 18 stone weight is not by any means excessive.
I am 11 stone, my wife is 7 stone neither of us carry excess lard and keep ourselves fit or in my case as fit as a knackered old body can be :)

Rather than trying to extract a little more out of a 350 the real answer is to get a 500. Our well laden 500 has served us well on 2 continents

I dont know if your 350 whould keep up with the sprint nature of city roads in Australia , we have a 38mph speed limit and my 535 has to blast it to keep up , the 350 was made for the English days before such thing as the rush hour , try stroking it up to 400cc and that so called sweeter engine will have more gusto

My 350 model G cruises at 45mph, breath-taking. It will cruise faster but it seems happy at 45. The Bullet is a faster bike but not by much. I had a 350 years ago and it was happy at 50mph, even two up. Here's the crunch, any slight incline and I had to drop to third gear and even second at times. For two up I agree with the rest, upgrade to 500.

Yes Frosty 350s don't do hills!
The close ratio conversion help by removing the big gap between 3rd and top. 3rd then becomes a usable gear on hills. You can almost go as fast in 3rd as top. At 45mph in top you do 3093 rpm on standard sprockets. 45 in third is 4207 rpm but only 3804 with the close ratio. It makes a big difference.
