A wee update on spragjam (their second album is great by the way, although a bit looooonnnnnnngggggggg)... one spragless week completed. Had to re-adjust the clutch a few times as I guess I disturbed a few things when doing the op. Kick-starting is now smooth, easy (more on this) and relatively silent now however (here is the 'more') the bike is a little harder to fire up. IE easy to kick over, but hard to fire up. Not a problem, just not perfect.

An interesting observation though... my bike idles a little more smoothly at lights now, and has yet to stall at lights since the desprag. This was a near-daily occurance up until last week. Also, having thought about it a little, in the past the standard 'stall at lights' trick was always accompanied by noise (a pop?) and a relatively sudden stall... not just running out of puff out as you might expect (I know youn shouldn't have to expect this, but EFI owners do as far as I have read!)... I wonder if the dead sprag was catching a little, resisting the motion of the engine sprocket slightly, even though the clutch was in or the bike was in neutral, and stalling as a result? Any thoughts? It could just be the marginally warmer, drier weather though!

Incidentally, the abnormally large diameter fuel hose just arrived so I am now a happy camper again. Currently fully happy.

Hi Michael, sprag shaft must have been slowly failing and starting to put slight drag on the motor because one gear has to freewheel and the other is in constant mesh and this must have been causing the resistance. Glad you are happy now

Had to laugh last week my friend who had an efi had a knackered sprag he came down to mine and I gave him 2 new ones as they are no good to me anyway he rang Hitchcocks up about pricing a new sprag beforehand he was told the price and then he asked if they'd heard of any efi sprays failing they said not they obviously don't read there own forum also the sprag bearing is the same as the sprag a fitted to earlier enfields which they said they did not know so much for Enfield experts!! Anyway I'm back off to the dark side laters dudes paul
