Hi.
Just for clarification how does the oil system work, does oil flow from the tank to the oil strainer quill (feed side) to the feed side pump, then through the oil filter to the big end eventually returning via the return strainer quill through the return pump to the oil tank ?the bikes a 2006 4 speed classic.

Hi guys !!----------- BOB, just a point to note}--- Unlike the usual dry sump system in which there is a branch off the return oil line to feed the rockers etc.. with the Enfield ALL the engine oil is returned VIA the external pipe and rockers--then down the pushrod tube, timing chest and oil tank.....Thus any blockage in that external pipe and rockers will starve the big end and mains of oil.......

Alan, not totally correct, the blockage in the scavenge pipe does not initially starve the big end, the blocking of the rockers eventually builds up so much pressure and with no relief valve in the rocker feed it strips the pump spindle which then starves the feed to the big end, but the cause of the blockage in the rockers in the first place is whitemetal lodging in them from an already failing big end which was not in the first place the result of the pump failing if you get my drift. Bit like what comes first, the chicken or the egg.

Alan, as the diagram shows, the oil is FED to the rockers through the external pipe, not drained through it. The oil drains down the pushrod tunnel to the timing chest.
