Apologies for not being clear, I was using the key to stop the engine. Key is working fine now as well. Only time it didn't work was when the engine ran at full RPM, turning the key at that point only lowered the RPM. Killswitch though is not working at all.

I'm thinking the wiring of the killswitch is faulty, I'll check for loose connections or replace it altogether. As for the key, I'll troubleshoot some more this evening. Is it possible when the engine is at very high RPM (ie full throttle in neutral), it can just keep on running with the ignition off? Also, thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind when I got to it.

Hi guys----------and a belated "welcome" to Kostas....OK, if you are SURE you have a BULLET '65 ( or any of those Iron Barrelled engines ) then you should also have a DE-COMPRESSOR lever on the L/H switch body ???..........................It looks like this}------ Image ----------------------------------------------------------- As the name suggests it will "De-Compress" the gasses in your cylinder and the engine will not be able to run anymore....... With these big singles this is the preferred way to stop your bike anyway, then turn the ignition off.................... From the description of what DIDN'T happen I'd say a Previous Owner has disabled the kill switch..This is easily done by cutting the two wires from the red switch and then joining the two coming out of the loom together..( As mentioned these will be in the headlamp casing or Casquette).............PS, be very careful with that throttle cable ie}--just where it exits the twist grip ... You should notice a brass ferrule with a slit in it loose-fitted over the end of the cable and free-fitting into the body of the twist grip ??.......Too little cable adjustment will see that pesky little item drop out and you'll get more slack than Nora Batty's stockings !!!.........I tape mine with some Duct Tape......PS, Notice I use a lot of these dots................................ It helps give some paragraph spacing....Also, get in the habit of "Copy" your post as there is a "Time-out" on here and it can be VERY ANNOYING INDEED when you've just spent some time on a bit of research during typing a reply, only to see it disappear up it's own exhaust pipe without a trace !!!--------------

If this bike has been converted to D/C headlight there is the possibility that it will backfeed from the alternator and it will run with the ignition turned off

To put a paragraph break in type ""
I can't type them all together or the html will just put a break in like it's supposed to.
Just don't put the comas in and no spaces.

PeteF means.
To put a line break or start a new paragraph you need to use the

command. To double space use it twice:

Put it before and after picture codes too.. it lets the picture stand free of
the text. And it looks good and improves readabitlity.
Here endeth the lesson.

As you're new to Enfields, Cheliotk I think its worth reiterating Alan R,s advice - ALWAYS stop these electic start engines by the decompressor before switching of the ignition. If you do not use this method, these engines have a habit of the engine rotating backwards off of the engine compression and destroying the sprag clutch (basically, the bit between the starter motor and bike engine)which is annoying, messy and expensive.Unless you use the correct method it is only a matter of time before it happens, be warned and advised!

Wow thanks all, that's some pretty good advice!

Alan & lucky eddie: There is indeed a decompressor on the left side controls, though from what I'd read/heard, I only saw it used when kickstarting the bike.

About the throttle cable ferrule, I assume you mean this?

Looks like the previous owner took care of that, he put a tie-wrap around it.

Thanks again, this message board rocks!

I think I should point out, no kill switch is an MOT fail, (Unless the bike is too old and did not have one from new.)

----------- and speedometers are only checked for fitment, not for function..Test Centres are not calibrated to do this---But your engine can be started such that the Examiners may judge ( in their opinion) if the silencing is sufficient.......This was the subtle change brought in a few years back when they stopped trying to get the actual noise readings which were subjective at best.......
