Does any member know of a capable bike shop in or very near to Sheffield who knows the Royal Enfield's engine.
I want my 535 Continental GT tuning, although I am aware that the RE engine is quite simple for most mechanics,I still think they need to be familiar with the RE engine...any advice welcome

PS.. I would not attempt doing the work myself, I have no patience at all for messing and fiddling around with engines.

My understanding is that you need to install a power commander. I believe there is an after market exhaust. Your best bet is ask our hosts given that they are developing a parts list for that bike as to what the best options are. Hitchcocks are opening a service centre in 5/6 months but best to use an accredited enfield dealer or better a m/c tuning specialist with a dynojet. This is from the GT section on their accessory page:

The first step to tuning your 535 GT is to fine tune the fuel to air mixture that the engine receives. With carburettor models this is fairly easy but with the EFI models it is all controlled by a factory set “ECU” (engine control unit). Even with a standard engine we have found that the mixture ratio is not always perfect and can not be adjusted. In conjunction with Dynojet UK we have developed a “Power Commander 5 System”. This works by piggy backing the existing ECU which makes changes to the existing settings to deliver the optimum ratio of fuel and air at any given throttle position and engine revs. Whilst this can offer some improvements on a standard model, it is essential when tuning the engine with different silencers and air filters etc. Dyno figures show that we have gained approximately 20% increase in BHP at the rear wheel coupled with a smoother power curve by using a different air filter and silencer. OXYGEN SENSOR BLANKING BOLT (Part Number: 91008A) If you have fitted the Dynojet Power Commander you will need to disconnect the oxygen sensor in the exhaust pipe. This stainless steel polished domed bolt can be used to blank off the hole that is left exposed when you remove the sensor.

hi greaser ,is the gt not quick enough then my recomendation is buy a bigger bike tuning etc will compromise warranty and probably make the bike less reliable beware the chocolate big end syndrome seen on these indian efi,s

Hi grunda12,

Yes I am aware of the warranty issue, but that dosnt really bother me

I have had all powerful sports bikes, but now at the codger stage so gone back to the old school café racers.

I had the original 250GT in 1966 & loved it & it was much faster than this current 2014 535 GT, the Indians have got the look right but sadly lacking modern day performance for A 500cc machine, its pretty typical of Asian built products ! I did not know that they also had a weak bottom end, but again not surprised.

At the moment I am thinking of fitting the new Motad exhaust, the Air K&N filter, the power commander, & maybe a 17t front sprocket [the standard is 18t] I feel the gearing is too high & the 17t would get it revving quicker.

Sofiaspin, can I ask which company you are related to ?. regarding the power commander Hichcocks told me that it comes with fitting instructions & its just do it your self plug in, I doubt this very much, & as you have mentioned in your post below it needs setting up with a Dynojet company.

Greaser, I am not related to any M/C business. I just suggested you ask advice from Hitchcocks and read the GT section on their website. I am sure there will be a dyno outfit in Sheffield area. Or a good Enfield dealership perhaps?

Sofiaspin.

Thanks for the reply..

Theres No motorcycle Dyno in Sheffield & No Enfield dealership either, I actually bought the biker from a North Yorkshire Dealer, 90 miles away, they delivered me for Free. I obviously would not want to ride this kind of Bike a long distance to get it sorted, its not a long distance machine as you will know.

I bought the Thruxton over the phone from a Maidstone dealer in kent "Laguna Triumph" & they did all the Mods for me & then delivered to my door, again no charge for the delivery a fantastic service from their manager Simon Cope , highly recommended..
We have 2 local main Triumph Dealers, but i could not get the same deal or service at either local dealership & neither of them would take on the Modifications.

I will keep trying & hopefully get The 535 GT sorted somewhere.

Hi guys

Can our hosts please advise.
I have noticed that my New 535GT has got No Balance weights on the wheels, so not sure if the wheels have been balanced or not [the bike shop in bought it from said that all the 535GT's they had in stock were the same]

If the wheels do need balancing I was going to use "Dynabeads" that is if you can use the beads on "Tubed Tyres" ?

Any advice Welcome
