Nice thread and excellent project. I have a friend who restored a 1935 Panther 600 sloper from a similarly parlous condition. It is a fascinating process that requires phenomenal patience. Having completed the 35 he rode it around 1800 miles in one trip with only one issue when the primary chain which was an inappropriate rating began to fail. He has since restored a 1950 version and is now under way on a 1936 one. It seems that rare old machinery seems to have a magnetism that attracts other machines of a similar marque as you found with the RE.
