Cheers from the Kingdom of Denmark:

I own a 1957 350 Bullet and last Summer I experienced at loud "puff" and I noticed that the rubber gasket in the primary drive chain case had come out through the top of the chain case.

I Thus Wonder what the problem can be - Bonus info:

During 2012 I must have been doing the same without me being able to locate the defect.

The engine is warm and the speed last Summer was abt. 30 mph. driving steadily...

I am yet to check the "duck-bill" breather for any blockages.

Thanks in advance for your take on this.

Best regards

Peter

This is a bit of a new one on me. The only possibility is that the primary chaincase got pressurised somehow. The only thing I can think of is that crankcase pressure got past the main bearing seal somehow.

Case must have been loose or warped. Any normal pressure breathes through the small hole in the oil filler cap. That O ring is normally pretty well restrained by the deep grove it sits in.

That sounds new and exciting... Let us know if you figure out what did it.

Where are you in Denmark? I'm in Kastrup, deepest Amager.

Thanks for your prompt postings - much appreciated.

On the subject of pressure getting by the main bearing seal: Is there a washer there to avoid just that?

@ my Fellow Dane: I am located in Gl. Holte - Lets meet up one day for some "Good Vibrations": Phone Number 41 25 10 07.
