[Bertie the Bullet]

After getting fed up with the paint not lasting on Bertie's centre stand I ordered a can of Tetrosyl underseal meant for the 4 wheeled contraptions and painted the stand with it, is it supposed to be like thick tar, after the can being open for 20 minutes the paint brush wouldn't penetrate the surface of the "paint" that was in the can so I have to stir it up with a screw driver to make it useable ?

--yep, that's the stuff alright...Remember it is meant as an UNDERSEAL for car bodywork....What's wrong with Hammerite ??

Hammerite is a substance of the past is it not? Too poisonous I believe. POR15 make a chassis paint that is as hard as the hobs of hades however, i find that my stand gets so covered in road filth and chain oil that if i painted it shocking pink nobody would notice it.

Well rope my legs and call me dogey! Seems i was misinformed! THe poison issue was I was erroneously led to believe was in its applied and dried state much like the lead based enamels of old. Mind you I'm heartily sick of having useful products removed because of some brain dead yockel who harms themselves because of misuse. You used to be able to buy Sodium Hydroxide in the supermarkets. Nothing better than caustic soda for cleaning blocked drains and other difficult things. Good for stripping paint of metal objects too. Some addlepated clotpole burns themselves with it and "I'm sorry we can't stock that any more". I'm amazed we are still allowed to buy motorcycles come to think of it!

Hammerite was reformulated some time ago to remove Xylene in the paint. IMHO it's not as good as it used to be, but still excellent stuff if properly applied. You do need to follow the instructions to get a good result.

Ah ha so not entirely mis informed then. The POR15 I can vouch for. It is a polyurethane paint and comes in single pot form. They make an extremely good tank lining system that works very well and I can attest to the phenomenal hardness of the finish of their other paints.

I wanted something that can last with all road crap beng kicked up over it from the back wheel, tried Hammerite and it didn't last, must admit I've never heard of por15' it makes some good claims, I'm fairly confident that Tetrosyl will last the course, an as it just the centre stand it not on too much show.

Get it powder coated, should only cost about a tenner or so and that will do the trick.
