Since the carburettor is dangling on the throttle cable anyway, I thought I may as well try to sort out my rich running buy fiddling with the throttle needle stop.

Some may find it a silly question but... am I right?

If the arrows refer to movement of the spring clip, then yes, your diagram is correct.

Then a quick heads up re throttle cable..

When you loosen the cable at the carb adjuster ready for removal, the slack you obtain will allow the brass spacer (ferrule) to fall out of the twist control on the handle bar…

These have been known to travel miles from the bike never to be seen again… forewarned and all that.. Grab the little booger and put it safe. without it your stuffed… gwilly

Have you checked the fuel level and choke shut off?

Jaffa.. Yes. It was all going nicely until the intake manifold hose ripped. I hadn't noticed that initially, but on checking the plug anyway due to poor run and tick-over, it was sooted up. I would have thought an extra air gap would give me a lean burn, so something else is obviously wrong. I'm going to get a new hose, of course, but I thought I may as well address the rich mixture while the carb is already off.

One thing at a time Exile. Leave the carb alone till you get the rubber fixed or you run the risk of losing track of where you are. When you get the new rubber on, start up and spray round the area with WD40. If it's still pulling air it will smoke straight away.

Thanks Pete, sound advice, but moving the pin stop is easily reversed if that becomes necessary. This is partly why I post here, apart from the advice, I can always go back and see what I've done....!!

Also have you checked the quality of the spark as in colour blue with a crack?
