Hi John, as a rider who doesn't consider speed everything the thought of a soft plodder appeals, an exhaust with large diameter pipe will sound lovely.

did exactly this 612 crank, 8.5:1 piston, standard cams, 32 mikuni, valve kit, ported head.
works a treat.
build the engine originally whit the 200180 cams, which work well.
but the power delivery is more mid to top end.
low down to mid range and at tick over the engine runs smoother with the standard cams, but lacks a top end.
our host told me that they are going to remake the Rcams which should be more like the standard cams but whit i little more top end.

I wouldn't hesitate,my 612 is about 8 to 1 and i even went back to the micarb suitably jetted.
612 makes a Bullet,i did 50k km with a 32mm Amal but now over with that, just walk up to it
and light kickover will allways result in an easy start. Can't really notice any difference in
power either in day to day riding.
cheers

I'm in the market for an 1960's Trumpet T100ss to keep Lucy (my T90)company, but having looked at that Panther again....It's gotta be worth a road test at least has n't it?

Nice Panther, must be a '54.I had one identical except for the headlight
which they changed in '55 to the same type fitted to the '55 Vincent D.
Still a 612 Bullet 5 speed is a much better bike.
