Could well be stuff creeping up the thread rather than an oil leak. Spark plugs come with a crush washer. It could be that that is the problem. A new plug might be the answer or you can get spare washers (Ebay). Also, look at the head round the plug hole - if that's not even, and the washer isn't seating properly you could get leaks. You could easily make up a tool to dress this.

Hi Pony, I suspect Midge has the most likely answer as porous heads are common. My 500 has always weeped oil at both the spark plug & the decompressor area, the same as Jaffa90's. Search 'porous head castings' in the search bar option at top right for solutions if you are not happy just to live with it - guess it depends how bad it is. REgards, Mick.

When I have this problem and it is fairly common I just say to people ' It's an Enfield get used to it there's always bigger issues to worry about"

Speaking of oil leaks, I had a leaking gearbox on my Ariel Red Hunter; being 18 and stupid, I wrapped a rag around the exhaust pipe to stop the oil staining the chrome; it caught fire. Fortunately, I managed to remove the burning rag.

Love your comment Leon. At the same age I was a poor mod who could not afford a rorty 'sports' silencer for my Vespa GS, so drilled holes in my silencer to get desired sound. Result scooter lost performance & sounded crap. Then I carefully wrapped and wired a rag around it to cover holes with the same result you had, plus burnt fingers hastily trying to get if off!
