Yes Bryan , and I was following up the info regarding a later suggestion of a 2MC capacitor

this is a bullet I used for off road and road use



as you can see , all the electrics were moved under the seat

you can see a boyer ign unit and a modern miniature ign coil , also a late indian made reg/rect complete with a 2MC equivalent , notice there is a switch pointing downward , this is the battery isolation unit

I understand the theory regarding disconnecting the battery, but I've not found this to be the case in practice. It may have been because the battery was knackered though.

john , the bike would not start with a flat battery and 2MC connected , the capacitor acted like a very slow battery charger, by removing the battery from the circuit (switch) my bike would start , admittedly roughly , but by flicking the battery on and a matter of minutes everything was good
