CYLINDER FIN RUBBERS

"These are the rubbers fitted to the EFI models as standard and can be trimmed to be used on the cylinder barrels of the older Bullets. They help deaden the noise especially from the alloy barrels".

Do these have much effect on engine noise.

Hi TODDY----------- simply put ? = NO.. What they do is to reduce or cancel-out the tendancy for some fins to emit a "Ringing" noise due in the main to simple harmonics..Have a read of this }------------- http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/quietingpads.htm --------------- The noise the engine itself makes isn't what these are made for....... If you look closely you'll find quite a lot of manufacturers have these as standard OR optional extras...........

They were fitted on an old MZ 250 two stroke I had back in the 70s They looked naff too me so I removed them only difference I noticed was as Alan R says a ringing on the fins when the engine was revved up whilst on stand that typical two stroke ring ding ding ding ding buzz.

These were fitted to any number of strokers back in the 60/70's to deaden the resonance and ringing in the cylinder fins. Whilst they may do a similar job in the UCE they cannot stop the noise of combustion in the cylinder. If you fitted sufficient numbers of these rubbers to quieten combustion noise then you would have a serious overheating problem instead.
