Hi Graham can you tell me how much clearance you have above the top of the motor? Problem I see is that the Bullet rocker covers have to be lifted up to remove, whereas the Electra doesn't because they only have a bolted on cover to get at the rockers. I have an Electra motor here that I can measure if you can give me any info I should be able to sort it out.

Norm. Sorry for the delayed reply I have been away visiting family. Difficult to measure clearance with out taking the tank off but to give you a guide, rear rocker cover clearance more than finger width about 30mm, the front rocker cover has a lot more space - enough for me to fit the coil to the underside of the top tube and still have clearance. I made my own engine plates and managed to get the Electra sump hanging down between the bottom tubes. If some kind person will tell me how to post photos I will be able to be clearer.

Thanks Graham, does your frame have the horizontal tube that the tank sits on, that is the bit that concerns me. Obviously you had to cut the tube going down between the motor and gearbox that the G has. Making up new engine plates is no big deal

Yes it is the frame with a large diameter tube, bit smaller front down tube with a forked casting and twin smaller bore tubes for the rigid frame. It is fairly roomy - I had a Honda FT500 engine in the Mark 1 version.

...also I found that for the Honda engine I had to cut a bend back the middle/under saddle down tube (I cut and brazed in a shallow bend) and cut it short so of course when I put the Electra engine I had to make special top engine plates from the gear box to this tube. As you say no big deal - I used MDF for the pattern and 5mm steel plate.

Thanks again Graham, looks like we will give it a go, I just don't want to cut any main structural part of the frame, tube to the top of the gearbox doesn't concern me. One more question, on the original G the left footpeg came out through the primary case, what did you do, use a left footpeg similar to the one used on the big twins that hooks down under the exhaust pipe and in this case it would hook under the primary case or did you make up a special one?

BTW the Indian Q/D rear wheel looks like it will fit ok with a new spacer made, only thing is it won't be a Q/D anymore, no big deal

I reused BSA C11G footrests for my bike. Using BSA practice I drilled and filed a hexagon(?) shaped hole in the underside engine plates to take a hexagon(?) shaped rod and spacers to mount the footpegs. As soon as I find out how to post photos I will show you how the engine fitted into the frame. For more information 'my' G frame had a longer headstock than the Webb girder forks I bought so I had to extend the corresponding Webb fork tube to suit the G headstock. A solid rod with each end turned down to fit inside the tube pinned with taper pins and brazed in for good luck. G
