He group,
I am the owner of a right shift, 500cc bullet (1995 model).
Currently the bike has charging problems, the battery is not charging, it might be the rectifier or the alternator. I have the following questions:
1. In my manual the are three 12-v wiring diagrams, Regular version, UK version and US/Canada version. Which one shall I use?
2. Is there an easy way to test which one is faulty?
3. Any vault-meter will do the job ?
regards
Pat

Hi Pat, nothing unusual with bad charging on these. Firstly you need to unplug the wires coming from the alternator, connector is usually somewhere around the top of the gearbox. Should be a 3 wire alternator with 2 wires out of the connector. Set the volt meter to A/C, run the motor up to about 2,000rpm and you should get hopefully about 30 volts A/C across the 2 wires. This is what is recommended but I have seen them put out 17 volts A/C and still give 14 volts D/C at the battery. If you don't have charge coming from the Alt you then have to decide if it is the rotor or the stator. I have had a couple of new rotors recently that didn't work, straight in the bin. If you have output from the alt replace the rec/reg but once again don't expect miracles from Indian parts, I have plugged in new Indian rec/regs only to see a puff of smoke as soon as I turned the ignition on, and we all know that once the smoke escapes it is a bin job
