Does anybody know where these early Indian Albion gearboxes changed. All the early Meteor/Super Meteor boxes I have worked on are the same design as the Indian boxes up until they were discontinued, that is with an external oil seal on the drive side. This obviously goes back to the mid fifties. 3 early Indian boxes I have worked on recently supposedly from the mid sixties do not have the external seal but an internal felt washer setup which is typically an early English design. So where did these boxes come from, if in the mid fifties they had an oil seal and in the mid sixties these boxes with felt seals appeared. The Indians wouldn't have changed the design. Were these old left over Albions that were shipped off to India to get rid of them and fitted with the later outer cover and clutch mechanism? I can't recall ever pulling down a pre 54 Albion so I can't tell if they had this felt seal or not.
