They look terrible without covers or gaiters and Alan is right, the Bullet sixty five gaiters look to spindly you need the Electra gaiters

Hi gents, yes I am fitting 17021 dust covers, they also arrived today, all of my other bikes have had bare stanchions, I am ott about keeping them oiled and clean, I generally spend more time cleaning and fettling than riding, I also like the look, gaiters are not usually my choice, however if I don't like the bare look on Bertie I may consider gaiters as an alternative. Having said all of that the manflu is keeping me indoors at the moment, the thought of working in a cold garage just doesn't appeal at present.

Well finally got the stanchions out of the casket tonight, no problems there now that I have the right tool, the suspension oil seals seem ok, I'm glad I got the legs out though because the stanchions where covered in all sorts of muck, although they are thankfully undamaged, I have fitted the dust covers so will definitely be leaving the metal covers off so I can regularly clean the stanchions, so now just need to find the time to put it all back together again. Will post a photo of Bertie's new look when it's finished.

Hi BERTIE---------- when replacing the legs into the casquette I'd advise you open up the split bolt hole in the lower yoke by the use of a wedge of some sort...This will give you a lot of freedom to accurately line-up the threads on the top of the leg with those in the casquette.. As you can see they are quite fine and need a bit of delicate "feel" to avoid CROSS-THREADING !! ( ARrrrrggghhh-----)..You want HAPPY THREADING, don't you ??.........
