Well that was an "interesting" ride, at times could barely see 5 yards in front of me, and the headlamp lighting up the moon instead of the road didn't help any, does anyone know how to adjust the headlamp, it just doesn't seem to have enough movement in it to do any good..

Hello Bertie:
Check for correct tyre inflation; 32 psi front-36 psi rear. Keep bike off it`s stand on flat ground. One person should sit on the bike throughout the focusing sequence. Roll the bike a few metres so the suspension adapts to the load. Position the bike 8-metres from a vertical wall. Measure the height from the ground to the centre of the headlamp. Draw a horizontal line on the wall at the same height. Start the engine. Put the headlamp on high beam. The centre of the concentrated beam should fall on the horizontal line on the wall if focus is correct. To adjust; LOOSEN THE TWO RIM ADJUSTING SCREWS; TWO SMALL SCREWS ON EACH SIDE, SLACKEN THE THE RIM ADJUSTING SCREW AT THE TOP. Move the headlamp as required to focus the concentrated light on the line on the wall. Tighten the adjusting screws. As they say in the classics, If all else fails, read the handbook which comes with the bike.

Bertie -
I think Leon meant "two small screws ONE each side"...other than that, just as he said "if all else fails, read the book".......

Leon, you wrote a good and informative answer how to adjust the headlight beam. If I may just be a little "pedantic" regarding one little detail: .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-"Position the bike 8-metres from a vertical wall. Measure the height from the ground to the centre of the headlamp. Draw a horizontal line on the wall at the same height. Start the engine. Put the headlamp on high beam. The centre of the concentrated beam should fall on the horizontal line on the wall if focus is correct." .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Thinking of it, if the high beam should be horisontal, it really doesn't matter if the bike is 5, 8 or 15 metres away from the wall...... The distance is only important if the height of the line on the wall is lower than the centre of the headlight, in order to get the correct downwards angle. Sorry, just giving details too much attention here! .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Regards, Anders F. R.

Anders F R: I agree with your observation BUT, if no distance from the wall was suggested, you can bet somebody would be asking,'how far from the wall'?

Hi BERTIE--------------remove the chrome rim and on top of the casquette is a hole for the clamping screw-----make this elongated and the lamp assy can now tilt.....I posted a photo of mine a while back but can't find it at the moment..............

Confusion can arise from the different types of headlamp depending on

where your bullet was sold!

North American bike have an adjustable 6 inch light set into the casquette,

where as India and UK have a 7 inch light which was not designed to be

adjusted, thus the problem if the lamp is not correct!

Hopefully, this shows what I mean!

Have just had a close look at my Honda GL1000 and CB750..Both have a 7" lamp assy carried within an adjustable rim.............and come to that so does the baby PD50 as well !!....I haven't tried a Honda one onto the Enfield but it LOOKS like it might be a straight swap ?? ------ Still can't find the photo of my casquette with the elongated hole......It's ever so easy to do and works a treat !!...
