Knowing it was going to rain today I wore my all in one rain suit over my normal gear, and apart from being a bit too warm I stayed lovely and dry except my hands, I caked my leather gloves in dubbing this morning before leaving and they where ok for about 1/2 hour in the rain, by the time I got home they were like a pair of wet sponges, wanting a new pair and looking for recommendations, what gloves do you wear in the rain and do your hands stay dry and warm ?

hi Bertie gloves i ve tried all kinds that say they are waterproof but all fall fowl keep applying the dubbing thats what i did with my army boots and now they stay bone dry almost atb paul.

Hi Bertie. My hands now stay warm and dry in the rain 'cos at long last I have taken the decision to use my van in bad weather! I'm a bit slow to catch on and didn't mind too much for the first 30 years, but now I am getting soft. The best hand protection against the weather that I used were waxed cotton overgloves (Barbour i think), which i kept dripping in Nikwax or equivalent, for warmth I liked the gloves that put two fingers down the same hole,(if you dont mind looking a bit like a crab!). A realy unsightly item that works is the handlebar muff, which you leave fitted and which keeps your hands dry, (provided you remember to lower the open end when not using them so they dont fill with rain). Last of all consider a fairing, keep one just for winter.

A never ending problem I fear with motorcycling gloves. I have a pair of old Frank Thomas gloves whic claim to be waterproof, and to be fair they are for about 2-3 hours riding, then the inevitable happens. I also have a few pairs of very large yellow rubbergloves, like the ones for washing up, which will actually fit over my FT's. They solve the problem completely and they do make me look well 'ard when I am riding. For emergency use I carry 2 pairs of latex gloves in eack of my motorcycle jackets and If I am caught out by what looks long lasting rain while I am riding I just stop, put them on and put my FT's over the top. I always wear 2 pairs in case one splits when I am riding. HTH. Failing all that I either stay in the dry or take the car. LOL.

Hi Bertie! I have a pair of insulated Halvarssons gloves. Leather, Goretex and insulation. In addition I have waterproofed the leather with some sort of Teflon based water proofing spray and traditional "grease" for leather. These gloves have kept my hands dry and relatively warm for years in wet weather and temperatures down to zero C. Can be recommended! Regards, Anders F. R.

One cheap-ish solution is to get a pair of Kevlar gloves from any protective clothing site, wear those for abrasion resistance and get a pair of ordinary non-motorcycling waterproof gloves to go over the top. Surprisingly warm too. The Kevlar gloves are also good on their own in very hot weather.

Always tuck your gloves into the cuffs of your jacket, not over the top, or the water will run down into the gloves.

IMHO, having leather on the outside of waterproof gloves is all wrong, the leather gets heavy and soggy, stops being breathable, and takes days to dry properly. Whatever goes on the outside should shed water, not soak it up.

You could always put a large pair of rubber gloves over the top of the normal riding gloves or better still use handle bar Muffs. Now who remembers those.

BB, I use Dainese Cardiff D-Dry along with a gortex inner glove - no issues yet but I don't do marathon runs in the winter and I've heated grips. The heated grips are by far the best mod I've come across.
