No Alan, it would be a crime to restore it IMO. If it were mine I would use it sparingly and gently while perhaps building up a store of spares that are likely to become unavailable, or difficult (or expensive) to make.

@ PeteF.

If I owned that old Norton, I'd do the restoring work. Imagine how that would look in British Racing Green, a little black detailing and chrome mudguards.. Rebadged and polished up.. Oh, man.

I am with Pete you cant restore that Norton. At a club run two weeks ago a 37 New Imperial appeared and a 16h, both completely unrestored, both original, both covered in oil and crud. My custom Beam drew a crowd but nothing like the madding throng around the unrestored bikes. It is what everyone seems to want now.

Bertie currently shares with a Honda NC700, however It would please me immensely if it was also shared with an RE 2 1/4, always wanted one, will probably never get one, still you never know, a small lottery could change that..also I agree the Norton should be left as is, it would be criminal to restore it, a liberal coating of WD40 and ride it.

The point with that Norton, for me, is that it's survived intact and complete for some 70 odd years. That fact, in my view, should be preserved. If it had been found with bits broken or missing then it would have lost much more than just the bits that were missing and I would then be in favour of restoration. Probably a terribly romantic view but.........
