Hello again all, I assume its normal, Berties pilot lights come on with the side light but go off when switched to the head light, I want them on with the head light as well, if I run a wire from the head light live to the Pilot light live would that work and would it cause any electrical oddities ? .. I have replaced the Side light and Pilot bulbs with LED's, yes im afraid I have LED fever.

if you wire as you say , the h/lamp will come on when on sidelights, several ways here , the easiest is to wire the sidelights via the wire that feeds the rear light or the speedo light ,as they are on whilst on side or h/lamp, you should be able to tap into it at the base of the speedo

correct , however the pilot lights are fed from the DC side of things! , Birtie , disconnect the side light circit before tapping into the pilot circit

Thank you gents, good point, tapping into the head light is not going to work, but the speedo wire is handy so will disconnect the pilots live from the side light feed and move it to the speedo. has anyone else done this I wonder ?

in the old days of 6v electrickery and weak dynamos , the idea was to conserve power , removing 2 sidelight bulbs allowed a tail light bulb , thank god with modern electrics (bullet excluded here!) there is ample to feed them all! on a modern car the sidelight is still lit if the h/lamp blows , go for it , nothing lost!

Just a thought...weren't pilot lights on Enfields once popularly known as "bobby dodgers"? The idea behind the name being, presumably, if your headlamp bulb blew at night you would still be showing a white light (or two) to the front and would thus avoid nocturnal arrest. So if you were riding at night, you would presumably want said dodgers to be illuminated on dip as well as pilot beam...or have I got things round my neck as usual?

As advised by Alan I have tapped the speedo live to power the pilot lights so they are on with the side light or headlight, thanks Alan works a treat.
